LANCASHIRE opening batsmen, Stephen Moore, is hoping that this season’s success in the Friends Life t20 will earn him a call up to the England squad.

The 31-year-old, who has the advantage of being born in South Africa on his side, told BBC Radio Lancashire: “It would be lovely to represent England.”

“Heather Watson became the first British woman to win on Centre Court since Jo Durie in 1985.”

Moore has scored 154 in runs in four innings for Lancashire this season and insists, despite international ambitions, his priorities lie at Old Trafford.

He said: "My focus is on trying to win another trophy for Lancashire. If that leads to bigger and better things for myself and the other guys in the squad, that's fantastic.”

Meanwhile, Lancashire moved into in a three-way tie at the top of the North Group with an eight-wicket win over Durham on Monday.

Spinner Gary Keedy and pacer Yasir Arafat were key in restricting the visitors to just 121 runs, before Steven Croft (65 no) and Tom Smith (45) finished the job as Lancashire reached 122-2 with six overs to spare.

Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire and Lancashire have all now got seven points from five games at the halfway stage.

Stockport’s Naomi Broady has been eliminated from Wimbledon after losing to Spain’s Lourdes Dominguez Lino 6-4 7-6 (7-4) in the first round of the women’s draw.

The 21-year-old British number six, and former UK under 18 girls champion, who has continued to climb the WTA rankings this year, struggled on the grass at Wimbledon yesterday.

Meanwhile Heather Watson became the first British woman to win on Centre Court since Jo Durie in 1985 yesterday – the British number four claiming a 6-2 6-1 victory over Iveta Benesova.

Paul Dickov continues to bolster his squad for next season, and has confirmed the return of Robbie Simpson to Oldham Athletic.

The 27-year-old striker, who was on loan at Boundary Park from Hudderlsfield last season before signing a short-term contract in January, has agreed a new deal for the League One side.

Simpson joins goalkeepers Alex Cisak and Dean Bouzanis, and midfield duo James Wesolowski and Kirk Millar, who have all signed new contracts with the Latics this summer along to join up with new boys Connor Brown and Daniel Taylor.

Bolton Wanderers look set to snap up Ireland international Keith Andrews, following his release from West Bromwich Albion.

The move could prove to be a shrewd one for Wanderers, who will be in need of a creative passer in midfield if they are to have any chance of returning to the Premier League next season.

The 31-year-old is set to agree a two-year deal at The Reebok stadium.

And finally, John Wilkinson has denied he is looking to step down from his role as chairman of Super League’s Salford City Reds, but admits that the club was looking for new investment.

The Reds have struggled financially since moving away from their original home in Weaste to the Salford City Stadium, and Wilkinson told BBC Radio Manchester: “We need to look to bring new people in.”

Wilkinson, who admitted the Super League side had lost several revenue streams since leaving The Willows, confirmed he was talking to people in “the city of Salford and just outside the city" about new investment.
