The Silence of the Mutts

Sleuth finds himself being mimed at by dogs

Published on March 27th 2009.

The Silence of the Mutts

So Sleuth was walking down Dale Street, taking in the sunshine and the general loveliness of mooching round the city. He was being a proper little flaneur.

Then this surprising sign caught his eye.

Seems the city’s stepping up on its dog control policies.

Sleuth decided to ask for an opinion from Cruftz about this. They said: "It's appalling that dogs should be discrimnated against in this way. Next we'll have the banning of the wagging of tails. It's clearly dogist."

But a Council spokesman defended the action: "Dogs can be guilty of anti-social behaviour. They openly urinate in the streets for example. Barking's just another problem. We don't have any issue with miming dogs however."

The new policy probably follows on from our Sleuth story (Sleuth 06/03/2009) a couple of weeks ago. This revealed how amorous geese on the Rochdale Canal tow path were honking away in erotic excitement all night and keeping residents awake.

Sleuth is pleased that the Council is on top of things. Can we shoot the pigeons next?
