Siamese twin cities

Liverpool and Manchester - all the same to the Liverpool Echo

Published on June 17th 2010.

Siamese twin cities

Here at Confidential, we all know that the North West is one big patch and that all you lovely people are sometimes as interested in what's happening along the East Lancs Road as you are here.

So it was great to see that the Liverpool Echo, chivvied by its recent purchase of the Manchester Evening News, has also bought into this cheery, all-comers stance.

Proof positive? In a huge half-page blurb, advertising its eight-page supplement - promising poignant memories and pictures about the much loved and recently lost, “iconic” LIVERPOOL Lewis's Department Store is announced and then ignored.

What's this? Big as you like in black and white - they've only gone and printed a picture of Lewis's in Piccadilly Gardens – MANCHESTER.

Oopsadaisy.

(We've all been there, so to speak, ed).

Admittedly, it's easily done. Here is a picture of the Liver Buildings.

No one needs reminding that the Echo is printed, along with the MEN, in Oldham every morning, the case since parent company Trinity Mirror controversially sacked its 100 Liverpool printers.

Although there appears to be a bit of a Merseyside-Greater Manchester love-in going on right now, senior TM management aren't soft.

In case newbie van drivers get confused on the way up and down the M62, and might, horror of horrors, deliver the wrong papers in the wrong city, they have arranged for helpful roads signs to be placed along key routes. This one, above, was spotted just by The Rocket.

Now who needs The Knowledge? By thee 'eck, nobody!
