Manchester 250: Monday 13 August

Manchester says goodbye to Mr. Manchester

Published on August 13th 2007.

TRIBUTES have been pouring in for Manchester’s music impresario Anthony Wilson, who died on Friday. He suffered a heart attack in Christie Hospital due to complications arising from kidney cancer. A spokesman for the hospital said: “Tony Wilson died peacefully at the Christie Hospital with his family by his bedside.” Manchester's town hall flag has been flying at half mast today in his honour.

A FAMILY MAN from Warrington has died after being attacked by a gang outside his home on Friday night. The man was assaulted by teenagers after he caught them vandalising a digger being used to carry out work on his home on Station Road. Neighbours reported seeing the 57-year-old man kicked in the head as he lay on the ground. The youths being questioned are male and aged between 15 and 19.

A DOUBLE SHOOTING took place in broad daylight in Chorlton-in-Medlock over the weekend. Two men, both 24-years-old are being treated in hospital and are said to be in stable conditions. The incident took place on Wadeson Street at 2.30pm on Saturday. Both men are now under police protection.

CARLOS TEVEZ might have to be drafted in early after Wayne Rooney fractured his foot in the 0-0 draw with Reading this weekend. Speaking on United’s latest addition, team mate Ryan Giggs said: “Carlos has looked good in training. He is a quality player and a great addition to the squad. The options we have up front are great.” United will play Reading away on Sunday.
