Love Thai CateringLove Thai CateringChorcha Harper is one of Gordo’s twitter mates, @chorchaH, fit as well as mouthy. She had been telling him about her mother’s cooking. Chorchaba; she is a Thai specialist, one of Gordo’s favourite cuisines. 

Gordo remembered the conversation when he was in the Cheshire Smokehouse - a place that sells spectacular smoked salmon as well as fantastic meat, all prepared by Frank, with whom Gordo did his time training to be a butcher in his teens for the family firm. Schofield reviewed it here

Wandering around, building up a massive bill when he had only come for six lamb chops, Gordo spotted Chorchaba’s frozen curries in a freezer cabinet, bought a few with Thai sticky rice and tried them the following week. They really are fantastic, £4.95, head and shoulders above the supermarket offers, so try ‘em. But defrost them first - it’s a long story. Gordo has tried chicken in green curry and beef in red curry. Spectacular.

Chorcha’s mum also holds cookery classes and does outside catering. You can see what Gordo is going on about.

Gordo And Enda's Cheese CategoryGordo And Enda's Cheese CategoryGordo was invited to help judge cheese at the International cheese awards at Nantwich. He was partnered with Enda Howly, a big cheese over at the Irish Cheese board. Enda and Gordo were judging the single vintage cheddar cheese, exceeding eighteen months of age. It was the first time Gordo had done this, so Enda was a great help.

 “What are you doing Gordo, eating the cheese? Spit it out for God’s sake man, we have another 43 to get through, two kilos of cheese before eleven in the morning will not be doing your insides a lot of good…”

That feller from Corrie was there as well. He has his own cheesery, or whatever they are called. He’s called Sean Wilson.

The cheeses were fantastic, and apparently our section winner (we were tasting blind) was a cheddar from the Lake District creamery.

The overall winner was a cave aged cheddar from Ford Farm, crowned ‘supreme champion’. It was a great experience and Gordo will be collecting the five best soon for a tasting for Manchester Confidential Heroes.

Best and worst food experience of the week

Great Noodles At Seoul KimchiGreat Noodles At Seoul KimchiGoes to Seoul Kimchi, the Korean restaurant over near the MRI, where Gordo’s boss Rambo insisted on trying the raw squid. It was fucking horrible. The rest of the meal was an exercise in sheer heaven and cost bugger all. The lady who runs it is fab, Gordo was chatting to her on the way out, Con may well be her name. Swerve that raw squid; it has ectoplasm on one side of it. Eat anything else, including the little anchovies, which are top. Con does great Japanese stuff as well.

The pinnacle of Gordo’s career

Monster Munch, Matt And The TeamsMonster Munch, Matt And The TeamsThis was judging the ‘longest biggest spring roll in the world’ along with a few unsavoury characters from Obsidian, Ning and the Gay Village, in the form of Gordo’s newest bessie, Wynnie LaFreak. Winnie is the big blonde bird in the photo and Gordo is considering marriage. This was all for a TV programme called Monster Munch and that Matt feller is the host.

The last time Gordo saw him was on a Sky programme where Gordo was judging a few cooks including him. Matt doesn’t like Gordo. Go figure. It was a really crap pancake Matt, really…

Gordo can’t tell you who won Monster Munch but suffice to say he wouldn’t feed either of the efforts to his dog.
