The Five Drinks That Changed The World Trail
Let The Liquorists show you how it all started
Go back to the roots of cocktails and right up to the present day in this enlightening tour of Manchester's best bars with drinks experts The Liquorists.
The Trail
In each bar you'll have two half-sized cocktails – the first, a faithful interpretation of the classic cocktail. The second, a house twist created especially for this trail. A food match will enhance the drinking experience.
You'll start in Taps Pour House with the tipple of sixteenth-century parties, Punch. This communal drink has long been used to get guests acquainted and inebriated in equal measure.
You'll eat here to line the stomach before moving on to....
All Star Lanes where you'll experience the first written record of the cocktail, ‘Alcohol, Water, Sugar and Bitters’ in its modern day form, the Old Fashioned.
Cocktail-making is all about ratios so your next drink at Epernay is the perfect balance of strong, weak, sweet, sour and bitter: The Martinez.
Then it's over to Liars Club for the Daiquiri, a mix of the holy trinity of Rum, Lime and Sugar. It spawned the Mojito and a thousand fruity friends, but you'll drink it how it should be: natural and sharp.
You finish at 3TwentyOne with a Cosmo. We'll show you how this classic cocktail heralded a new era in mixed drinks and how a drink can symbolise a craze.
