Booking:
Booking - book with confidence

We are one of the UK's major providers of low-cost scheduled flights as well as being the UK's largest independent charter airline. We've come a long way since our launch in 1968 and today our fleet features 33 of the world's most modern jet aircraft, and each year we fly around 7 million people to more than 100 destinations worldwide.

Monarch has always been quick to respond to changes in the market and believes in finding ways to give customers exactly what they want. We're proud to be the oldest UK airline operating under our original name and with over 40 years of experience in the travel industry, we're well placed to offer expert advice on how to secure extra protection when booking scheduled flights.

Top tips to secure extra protection when booking flights

1) Book Travel Insurance with Monarch
Booking travel insurance (single trip or annual) with Monarch (supplied by our partner Rock Insurance Services) will automatically cover each policy holder up to £500 for replacement ticket cover (with no excess to pay).

You can purchase our travel insurance as part of your scheduled flight booking here at monarch.co.uk or you can purchase directly from our travel insurance website. Read our full travel insurance policy wording. Don't forget the best way to save is to buy an annual policy if you travel more than once a year.

2) Book scheduled flights on a Credit Card or Visa Debit card
If your flights cost over £100 and you pay for them using a credit card (Visa / Mastercard) you'll be entitled to a refund in the event of scheduled airline failure (this is protected under the terms of the Consumer Credit Act). You'll need to contact your card issuer to make the claim. If your flights cost less than £100 you may still be entitled to a refund, but you'll need to check with your card issuer and claim in good time.

If you pay using a Visa Debit Card you should also be able claim a refund using the 'Visa Debit Card Chargeback Scheme'. Contact your bank or Visa for more details of this scheme.

If you have booked (or plan to book) a Monarch charter flight on this website your booking is made with Avro plc who are ABTA-bonded and have an Air Travel Organiser's Licence (ATOL) issued by the Civil Aviation Authority, offering you total security and peace of mind when booking.

Fares, taxes & charges

Can I make changes to my scheduled booking on line?
Yes, provided you are a scheduled passenger (flight numbers starting ZB). Changes can also be made via our reservations centre. Name changes can be made online or via our reservations centre.

Where can I obtain an invoice for my flights?
Provided you are a scheduled passenger (flight numbers starting ZB) this can be obtained from our administration department on 0901 029 2929 (25p per min, calls from mobiles and other networks may cost more).

I would like to change or cancel my booking
Firstly, please check the fare rules associated with your booking. All of our scheduled flights are non-refundable. To change the date of your booking, call our call centre on 08700 40 50 40 or visit our website. If you have travel insurance please check with your travel insurance company to see if this is covered in your policy or not.

Will I receive a ticket?
Monarch's scheduled flights are ticketless, so when you book (whether online, through our call centre or at a ticket desk in the airport) you will not receive a ticket. Instead, you will receive an email itinerary that confirms the details of your booking, and gives you a booking reference. Please ensure that this itinerary, but particularly the booking reference, is presented at check-in.

Please note: If you book through a travel agent, you will most likely receive an itinerary and booking reference from the agent. However, some travel agents may still provide you with a traditional ticket that must be presented at check-in.

What options of payment do I have?
Only credit/debit card & PayPal payments are accepted. Unfortunately we cannot accept payment by cheque for any bookings (regardless of when you intend to travel).

Baggage

If I book an extra seat and pay for extra hold baggage without another passenger flying, can I use 2 baggage allowances?
No, all hold and hand baggage allowances are per person and therefore an empty extra seat will have no baggage allowance associated with it.

Can you combine your hold luggage allowance?
Yes, your hold allowance can be shared between your travelling group as long as any 1 item of luggage does not weigh more than 32kg. For example 2 passengers travelling on the same booking can take up to 40kgs checked in baggage between them. Please note: Scheduled passengers (flight numbers starting ZB) must ensure that they have paid the relevant baggage charges. If only 1 passenger has paid the per bag charge only 1 bag can be carried up to 20kgs.

Please note hand and hold baggage allowances cannot be combined.

Can you take a buggy/pram/travel cot into the cabin?
Buggies and pushchairs can be used right up to the aircraft steps at which point they will be put into the hold area of the aircraft. These can be collected on the baggage carousel in the arrival destination's airport.

Where should you pack aerosols and electrical items?
Electrical items such as hairdryers, etc and aerosols can be packed in your hold baggage.

If you're getting married abroad, is there anywhere to hang your wedding dress in the cabin?
Unfortunately we do not have any facility on-board our aircraft to hang wedding dresses. These should be either packed within the dimensions of hand baggage to be carried on-board, or packed for carriage in the hold. There is no additional baggage allowance given for wedding attire.

Can you carry a shot gun on a Monarch flight?
Yes, but guns must be dismantled or rendered inoperable and must be carried in a suitable case. A shotgun/police certificate must be carried by the passenger. All sporting guns will be loaded in the hold area of the aircraft. Please contact us, if you intend to travel with such an item so that a note can be made in your booking.

What do you do if your baggage is damaged during a flight?
If you have reported the damage before leaving the airport and obtained a Property Irregularity Report Form, you will need to contact Monarch Airlines Head Office on telephone number 08444815496. Our agents will arrange to send you a claim form or arrange for the item to be replaced. If you did not report the damage before leaving the airport, please call 0844 481 5496 or write to Monarch Airlines claims department within 7 days.

What do you do if items are missing from your baggage?
You will need to write to Monarch Airlines within 7 days, providing your flight details and a list of the items missing. Monarch Airlines do not accept liability for the loss or partial loss of fragile or perishable items, items having special value e.g. money, jewellery, precious metals, computers, personal electronic devices, negotiable papers, securities or other valuables, business documents, passports and other identification documents, or samples.

In view of these conditions we suggest that you contact your travel insurers in the first instance, as your policy should have more comprehensive cover than offered by the airline under the Montreal Convention.

Your insurers may require you to report this incident to the Police.

Is your baggage insured?
Liability for lost and damaged baggage is limited under the Montreal Convention which governs airlines around the world. We would always recommend that you contact your own insurance company as your policy may be more comprehensive than that of our liability under the Montreal Convention (please see our 'terms and conditions'), so please make sure you are adequately insured before you travel.
