Hub Highlights

Entry to the Festival Hub on Albert Square is free and its open from 11am - 11pm daily .

The Festival Bar: The Veltins Oktoberfest in association with Lufthansa.
Bavarian beers, entertainment and food abound at this authentic tribute to the Munich Oktoberfest.
Free entry.

Home Sweet Home on the Square.
Gourmet bake house Home Sweet Home will be bringing their artisan comfort food to the Hub for the full 10 days providing much needed hot drinks, toasties, milkshakes and cakes all Festival long! Free entry.

Manchester’s Big Pub Quiz Off, Sponsored by Hospitality Action, Monday 10 October, 6pm onwards With legendary DJ Pete Mitchell hosting and quiz masters including Man Con’s own Jonathan Schofield,a special food themed quiz will be staged at the Hub, with the chance to win some AMAZING prizes! Proceeds raised will go to Hospitality Actions.

Admission cost: £10 per team.

Confidential's Call My Bluff, Thursday 13 October, 7pm
A Call My Bluff-style quiz, hosted by Confidential's Gordo and wine expert Charlie Womersley with an artisan cheese-tasting and a supper from the head chef at Ramson's Hideaway restaurant. Enter as teams or individuals. It promises to be one of THE events of MFDF 2011. Find out more. Tickets: £25.

Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall, Friday 14 October, 1-3pm
Get up close and personal with one of food's most exciting and innovative figureheads. Guests can watch Hugh perform a live cookery demonstration, take part in a Q and A, and buy a signed copy of his new book, 'Veg'. Lunch time refreshments will be served. Hugh’s demo will be followed by other demos which will be free of charge.

Highlights from the rest of the festival

An Evening with Michael Caines. Wednesday 12 October, ABode Manchester
Michael Caines will be hosting a dinner at MFDF Restaurant of the year nominee, Michael Caines Restaurant at ABode Manchester in support of Hospitality Action. He will host this evening in his own relaxed and inimitable style, telling stories and anecdotes as well as explaining the food. Diners will be treated to a Champagne and canape's reception, followed by a four course dinner. Tickets: £90. BUY NOW

Floating Feasts: A Taste of Modern History. Saturday 15th October, River Irwell.
Food fanatics can take to the River Irwell for two gastronomic treats this Festival with the Floating Feasts sponsored by Taste of Modern History - a new historical recipe that journeys through Manchester’s heritage. During the day a ‘Floating Family Day Out’ will take kids and parents on a cruise along the river to the Imperial War Museum with kids activities and snacks inspired by the book. By night a Dinner Cruise will feature a 3 course meal from the book created by Robert Owen Brown of the Mark Addy who has contributed to the book, plus tour guide, and half a bottle of wine. BUY NOW

10 Year 10 Course Tasting Menu, Lowry Hotel
Over the last 10 years The Lowry Hotel, has been one of the leading dining destinations in the city, looking back to some of his predecessors such as Marco Pierre White, Executive Head Chef Ryan Murphy has created a 10 course tasting menu reflecting the dishes that have graced the menus at The River Restaurant over the last decade. 
This menu will be launched at the Manchester Food and Drink Festival at a special event on 14th October 2011.
