Manchester Day Parade

Wish You Were Here for Manchester Day Parade 2013

Sunday 2 June 2013, Manchester city centre, free

One of the North West’s flagship summer events, the much-anticipated Manchester Day Parade will return on 2 June 2013, showering the city centre with an explosion of colour and music to bring life to this year’s theme – Wish You Were Here!

Now in its fourth year, the Manchester Day Parade is one of the city’s most loved events, attracting more than 50,000 people each year.

Experience the infectious atmosphere of the parade which will feature a dazzling array of giant characters, vibrant costumes and a cacophony of sound.

Up to 2,000 people representing some eighty community groups, charities and volunteer groups work with some of the North West’s most talented artists to create the parade, which celebrates the city’s many triumphs and achievements over the years.

Past parades have commemorated the opening of the Bridgewater Canal and Manchester’s status as the world's first industrial city; the birthplace of the computer, atomic theory and graphene; and of course the city’s numerous sporting achievements and world-renowned musical heritage.

The Manchester Day Parade is inspired by the city, created by Manchester people, commissioned by Manchester City Council and produced by Walk the Plank – and this year’s parade will continue to animate the city with this fantastic, free family day out.
