Aumbry, Prestwich
Aumbry didn't make a big fuss when it opened in 2009. There was no big fanfare, or glittering party with VIP invites. But it's managed to pick up more awards, accolades and love than any other Manchester newcomer since.
Restaurant of the Year - Manchester Food & Drink Festival 2010
Restaurant of the Year - Lancashire Life 2010
Up and Coming Chef of the Year - Good Food Guide 2010
Housed in a converted cottage in Prestwich village, Aumbry seats just 26 covers. In the dinky kitchen you'll find husband and wife team Laurence Tottingham and Mary Ellen McTague who first met working at Michelin-starred Sharrow Bay. They later worked at Heston Blumenthal's acclaimed restaurant The Fat Duck, Ramsons, and Heathcotes' London Road Restaurant in Alderley Edge.
At Aumbry they've put all their pedigree into creating precise, some say faultless, dishes defined by bold flavours and locally-sourced produce.
Their Prestwich location means that some people may not have experienced Aumbry yet. If that's you, make the most of their one-night-only takeover of Room in the city centre on Sunday 7 August. It will be very special indeed.
