Xfm have beaten off competition from 18 other radio bids by winning an FM analogue licence to broadcast in Manchester. ManchesterConfidential.com has been raising awareness and getting feedback from our readers on the radio bid for a couple of months now and the feedback has generally consisted of making sure the content was right for Manchester. The announcement was made by regulators Ofcom late yesterday afternoon after months of deliberations over the bids that included stations promoting speech led radio, mainstream rock music or catering for minority tastes. Commenting on the announcement, Graham Bryce, Managing Director of Xfm, said: "If ever there was a radio station made for Manchester, Xfm is it. We did loads of research in Manchester and we were overwhelmed by the level of local support. We can't wait to bring our award winning programme to the people of Manchester and hope to be on air later this year." The competition was fiercer than the fight over Manchester Confidential's new Ben Sherman shirts, with a host of other companies producing high quality bids, condolences to the ones who didn't quite make it. |
