Xfm Manchester anthems

You may remember many months ago, in the dark ages of radio before the launch of Xfm, that Mancunians were asked by the organisers of the imminently arriving Indie Rock n’ Roll station to choose their favourite Manchester anthem of all time.

Well the competition was a resounding success, with entries flooding in from all over Manchester, and the winning entry (the Stone Roses’ I am the Resurrection) being the first tune to grace the airwaves when Xfm launched on 15th March this year.

But as we know, with Manchester’s musical heritage as it is, the task of choosing just one anthem to sum up the city is a hard one. That’s why Urbis are currently running a listening post at their exhibition 0161 Manchester: This is what we’re made of, to showcase some of Manchester’s favourite tunes.

But if you’d rather listen to the songs in the comfort of your own home then this Sunday you can, as the listening post at Urbis is being made into a one-off broadcast with Clint Boon on 97.7 Xfm Manchester, this Sunday 10th September from 5pm to 7pm. Clint Boon will count down the top twenty Manchester anthems, as voted by Xfm listeners.

So whether you’re out and about in the car, spring cleaning the house or just lazing around on Sunday afternoon, make sure that you tune in to hear just what our city is made of.

97.7 Xfm Manchester
5pm – 7pm
Sunday 10th September 2006.
