We're recruiting a .NET Developer

We're looking for an experienced .NET Developer to join our team at Manchester Confidential. It's an opportunity to put your skills and intellect to the test in an ambitious and expanding digital media company based in Manchester city centre.

You'll be working in our tech team to develop our websites, which include Liverpool Confidential, Leeds Confidential and our soon-to-launch London website, as well as Manchester Confidential.

The person specification is given below – but we'd like to highlight your most important attribute here: we want someone with excellent research skills and diagnostic ability. If you encounter a technological problem, you'll need to research the cause, and use existing knowledge or solutions to correct it. Even if you're not overly familiar with that particular technology, you'll need to investigate it yourself, then seek assistance if you need it.

If that doesn't daunt you, read on.

.NET Developer Person Specification

Essential

1. Excellent research skills and diagnostic ability.
2. Object-Orientated Programming (OOP) paradigm.
3. Model-View-Controller (MVC) architectural pattern.
4. Knowledge of application layer communication protocol operations, HTTP(S) and FTP etc.
5. Expert configuring and deploying Windows based servers, 2008 R2 systems.
6. Familiar with using MSDN Library, and similar documentation suites, such as Sandcastle.
7. Cross-Browser testing skills.
8. Standards based CSS/XHTML/XML/JavaScript (jQuery based).
9. SQL running in MySQL, familiar with query design, database architecture (table-per-type strategy).
10. Ability to use trunk/tag/branch based Subversion systems.
11. Usage of Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 IDE.

Desirable

• Familiar with Microsoft .NET Framework v4.
• Familiar with server-side administration.
• Programming in C# and VB.NET (strictly and explicitly declared).
• Ability to maintain and configure instances of MySQL.
• Familiar with ability to code not only online hosted applications, but also client-side software, console programs, Windows services and their appropriate installers.

Useful

• Creating simple structures in Adobe Flash.
• Using graphics packages, especially Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
• Deployment tools such as TeamCity, MSBuild, and working in a Continuous Integration environment.

In return for your knowledge and skills, you'll receive competitive pay (negotiable according to your experience) and the chance to play an integral role in a forward-thinking digital media company.

The working hours are negotiable – we expect you'll be full time but we'll be flexible on this if you're the right person for the job.

To apply, please email your covering letter and CV to careers@ manchesterconfidential.com, stating in the subject line that your application is for the .NET Developer position. Deadline for applications: 14/02/2010.
