Want to volunteer at Manchester International Festival?

Doing anything exciting this summer? How about a bit of 'artist liaison' with Rufus Wainwright? Or helping with the marketing of Neil Bartlett’s new play? Manchester International Festival is looking for volunteers to help with all elements of their programme, including photography, sponsorship, artist liaison, research, marketing and ticketing. If you're interested in the arts – particularly in terms of your career – this is a project you'll want to be involved in.

In 2007 around 300 volunteers supported the biennial festival, which was best known for Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett's Monkey: Journey to the East production. This year's festival will feature Everybody Loves a Winner – Neil Bartlett’s new play, Prima Donna – Rufus Wainwright’s debut opera, and an environment created by Zaha Hadid Architects for the solo works of JS Bach. Many other original commissions are being programmed. The full line-up will be announced in March.

The festival's volunteer coordinator, Caroline Birnie, explained what you get out of joining the team: “Volunteering offers countless benefits and it’s a great way to share skills and to learn new ways of working. It also offers the chance to meet people and to experience, first-hand, the build-up to productions which will be world-premiered in Manchester.”

One volunteer from 2007 said, “Despite the rain, it was probably the best two weeks of volunteering to experience as a first timer – and definitely made me reconsider my career.”

The MIF website gives full details of the roles on offer, and over the next month, there will be a series of open events for potential volunteers. Click here to find out more and apply.
