Third Sector Invited to Bid For £250k

MANCHESTER City Council are inviting third sector groups and voluntary organisations to bid for a portion of a new £250,000 fund released by the Council in order to tackle poverty in the city.

The additional funding has been made available under the Local Welfare Scheme to help those most vulnerable and within crisis situations, such as those affected by homelessness or those fleeing domestic violence and abuse.

The help delivered by third and voluntary sector groups could be for immediate food needs or other essential personal goods for those suffering from serious poverty.

A further £100,000 has been available to provide support to residents suffering from fuel poverty.

Councillor Jeff Smith, Executive Member for Finance, said: “It’s a sign of the time that food poverty and fuel poverty are serious concern across the country, and Manchester is no exception. We want to make sure that no one in serious need goes without."
