The bridge is named

You’ve been voting on your favourites, but now the competition’s closed and the bridge at Piccadilly has a new name…

The bridge is named

Well, the lines are closed, the votes have been counted and verified, and we can now announce that the new bridge at Piccadilly will be called… (drumroll please)…

“The Manchester Curve”. Ta daaa!

The winning entry was submitted by Jane Waterhouse from Salford Quays, and was picked by public vote from a shortlist of ten entries. Over 2,000 people entered the bridge naming competition, but there could only be one winner, and Jane’s name will sit proudly on a plaque on the bridge, alongside the bridge’s name, for all eternity.

The landmark footbridge, which is now open to the public, is funded by developers Argent.

Argent’s joint chief executive, David Partridge, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the choice of name for our bridge. The Manchester Curve is a truly original, perfectly simple and exquisitely apt name, and we applaud Jane Waterhouse for her winning entry.”
