SpeedFlatmating Comes To Manchester

CHOOSING someone to live with can be a very ominous prospect. Will they be tidy? Will they play roots reggae at all hours? Will they be a raving lunatic?

Acknowledging this, some clever people from London called SpeedFlatmating have introduced a new networking event to help you weed out the weirdos, by bringing together people with rooms and people looking for rooms in a social setting to see who hits it off.

Launched in London, Streetflatmating decided to bring the event to Manchester as demand increases for rooms within the Northern Quarter, Ancoats and city centre areas.

Loosely based on speed dating, the first of the fortnightly events will be held at Tusk Bar in the Northern Quarter on Tuesday 21 January.

Without the formal ‘speed date’ structure and the awkward one-to-one timed conversations, everyone gets a badge (‘I need a room’ or ‘ I have a room’) so it’s easy to spot who’s who.

Matt Hutchinson, director of the company said: “SpeedFlatmating takes the legwork out of finding somewhere to live but, more importantly, it puts the emphasis on people. When you share, who you live with is just important as the property, if not more so. That’s why meeting the flatmates first makes perfect sense.

“This will be our first UK event outside London - Manchester is seeing similar demand for rooms so we expect SpeedFlatmating to be just as popular here as it is in the capital.”

Launched in London, Streetflatmating decided to bring the event to Manchester as demand increases for rooms within the Northern Quarter, Ancoats and city centre areas.

According to the company, 'there are currently on average 2.99 people looking per room advertised in the city, but for some of the most desirable areas, such as M4 and M1 postcodes, this rises to 7.92 and 6.95 respectively'.
