School of Rock

What school kid wouldn’t want to be in a rock n’ roll band? Travelling the world, meeting interesting people and spending their days and nights doing what they love – which I’m guessing wouldn’t include too much homework.

If you’re in a school band and you think that you have something a bit special, then listen up - Xfm is launching a nationwide search for the third year running to find the best school rock band in the UK.

The winning band in the North West of England will win the once in a lifetime opportunity to open 97.7 Xfm Manchester’s Winter Wonderland gig and perform on the same stage as The Manic Street Preachers, The Magic Numbers and Badly Drawn Boy, to name but a few. There’s even free music equipment up for grabs for the winning school.

Xfm’s Rock School starts on the 23rd October 2006, when Xfm will be asking school bands up and down the country to upload a cover version of a classic or a current Xfm track to the station’s website. The band can even create their own page on the Xfm website, adding photos, biographies and additional music.

Xfm Manchester DJ Clint Boon said: ‘This is something that I have been really excited about for a while as I know how much talent is out there from my Music Response show. I can’t wait to see what secret prodigies are hidden out there in schools all over the North West.’

Bands have until midnight on Thursday 23 November to upload their cover versions at www.xfm.co.uk/rockschool and then Xfm listeners will vote online for their favourite band in each region. For full terms and conditions please go to www.xfm.co.uk/rockschool from Monday 23 October.

The winning school band may be too young for the sex and the drugs, but they are certainly allowed the rock n’roll. Which, let’s face it, is the most important bit.
