Manchester United star, Cristiano Ronaldo writes off his brand new Ferrari

Published on January 8th 2009.

Ronal-doh!

Cristiano Ronaldo has written off his £200,000 Ferrari after crashing it into a wall in a tunnel near Manchester Airport. The 23-year-old was unharmed in the accident on the A538 Altrincham Road, between Wilmslow and Hale, Cheshire, at round 10.20am.

The footballer had only just imported the super-car from Portugal two days ago and was reportedly taking it for a first spin.

His Manchester United team-mate, Edwin van der Sar, was following in his Bentley, but the Dutch keeper was not involved in the crash.

Ronaldo, 23, lost control of the vehicle which ricocheted off the wall until it finally came to a stop further down the tunnel. He managed to get out of the crushed car wreckage and wait for police to arrive. He gave a negative breath test to officers at the scene of the accident before immediately joining team mates at a routine training session at United's Carrington training ground.

Police are now expected to investigate whether Ronaldo had been driving faster than the 60mph speed limit in the tunnel and if there had been any witnesses to the crash. The Ferrari in question can reach speeds of up to 205mph.

Luckily for the £120,000 a-week player, he will have earned enough money to buy another one in less than two weeks.

Ronaldo's comments to the police were "The wall wasn't ten yards away!"

Rubbish, he reversed over his morning delivery that day i left three boxes behind his car and he just rushed past me on the way out of his garden gates! he was in a rush after i dropped off a box of his usual, and wheelspinned up the road at an horrendous pace!

Maybe he should get a semsible car on the mobility scheme. The amount of times he falls over for no reason surely he would qualify. Best cars are Honda. Mr Ronaldo could have an automatic Jazz for nil advance payment. Automatic would suit him too, as he only needs to use one foot.

The Skoda Superb is superb but the Skoda Magnificent is even better. The Skoda There's No Real Superlative Big Enough is something else again. Er...no sorry that would be the Skoda Something Else Again. Getting confused there.

Ed....what about freedom of speech? He4's not my favourite person either but I wouldn't wish him any harm knowing how easily he hurts. He's now waying that there was oil on the road.....strange how no one else had a problem and crashed into the wall then eh?

Actually, it's only 50 mph thru' the tunnels. it's for your own good, you know. I agree with Chick about Nissan and Toyota. You can add Honda and Mazda to the list, and if it's good reliable and economical affordable motoring you're after, then I'd be thumbing thru' Skoda's latest catalogue. They've just launched a new Superb. If it says "Superb" on the boot, then it probably is.

He's a nice enough guy, know him vaguley as a customer of mine - I'm glad he's OK. Just an example however, of too much money too soon. He's spent £2m in cars in two years, shame he didn't buy a Nissan or a Toyota

Read the second rant on this page heatseeker. Maybe we need to make a list of those who come on here and are boringly unfunny and insulting and ban them.

i can see it now 130 through the tunnel approaching a wall of defence protect the rest of road users and he cant decide which way to go when travelling at a high speed going forward... a bit like his ridiculous step overs!!!! left or right right or left? and before he knows it he's on his arse again!!!

What the artical should have said was: Cristiano Ronaldo escaped unharmed after writing of his Ferrari yesterday - rumours are that he dived from car before it hit the barrier. The first thing he said to the police was that the wall was not 10 yards away. Alex Ferguson is claiming that Ferrari does not give Ronaldo enough protection. Witnesses at the scene of Ronaldo's crash say he was only lightly tapped from behind, when all of a sudden the car flipped and rolled over 10 times. Apparently witnesses in other cars who saw the incident, said that Ronaldo's car was accelerating towards the tunnel, when it suddenly and inexplicably seemed to flip over, with absolutely no contact with any other vehicles. The police arrived, and immediately following directions from Ronaldo, arrested the nearest car driver. Police are investigating why a player voted the worlds best, and earns £140,000 per week cannot take a corner. "Anyway he was all right, he was walking, added the witness”, confirming that Ronaldo is the only man in Manchester who walks away from massive car smash but spends five minutes writhing in agony if someone pulls his socks down.

There was a negative breathtest. I think that means he cried while he blew. Probably not the 1st time he has blew either.

If you're earning that amount of money you might as well enjoy it. Go on Cristiano get yourself another.
