Ritchie, Law and Downey Jr...in the Northern Quarter

Madonna released her latest single 'Miles Away' last week, dedicating it to the “emotionally retarded”. She told the crowd of 20,000 in Boston: “Maybe you know some people who fall into that category. God knows I do.” That wouldn't of course be a sly dig at her soon to be ex-husband Guy Ritchie who is in fact miles away from Madge. In the Northern Quarter on Little Lever Street, to be specific.

Ritchie is busy filming the new Sherlock Holmes movie in a Manchester warehouse contracted by Warner Bros Studios. Robert Downey Jr is playing Sherlock Holmes as a bad-ass in the drama about the detective, with Jude Law as Doctor Watson.

The cast and crew have been in Manchester for four weeks so far, filming also in the Town Hall. They will be moving on to film in Liverpool next week.

Despite the array of paparazzi playing 'who's got the biggest lens?' outside the set, I managed to get access with my feeble camera phone via a very friendly, Cockney rigger named Roy.

Roy was hanging around waiting to take the set down when filming ended for lunch. I asked Roy if he'd managed to get to speak to Ritchie and what he thought of him, but Roy seemed more concerned with talking about the price of booze in the Macdonald Hotel saying: “It's £4.10 for a pint! We should sneak some cans in next time.”

A member of the production crew noticed that a rather unlikely looking Victorian had appeared on the set and asked, “Excuse me...who are you with?” to which I replied “Erm...Roy?”

“Ahh that's ok then,” he said, with a big thumbs-up.

Good to know that they've spared no expense for top notch security.

If you happen to be in the Northern Quarter this week, don't be alarmed by grubby-looking Victorians wandering around clutching vending machine cups. They're extras.

And speaking of extras, Guy Ritchie was spotted earlier this week with a man who likes to go that extra mile when he hears a celebrity is in town. Does anyone recognise the hobbit on the left?

He was last seen by Confidential exactly one year ago, impressing Wonderbra model Eva Herzigova in Selfridges. Click here

Hmm... perhaps you should invest in one of those cameras with a big lens. You got really close to the action there but your crappy camera's really let you down hasn't it... hahaha. Think of the thousands you could have made selling them to The Sun if you could actually make out who the people are without having to draw arrows pointing at their heads!!
