AN aggressive beggar who threatened female shop workers has been banned from parts of the city centre.
On one occasion he threatened to stab a female shop assistant and on another he threatened to smash a female shop worker’s glasses.
Anthony Cooper, aged 52 and of no fixed abode, has also been banned from staying in any shop, commercial or hospital premises after being asked to leave by staff.
Manchester City Council obtained an anti social behaviour order (ASBO) against Cooper after working closely with Greater Manchester Police and city centre businesses.
Anthony CooperThe ASBO prohibits Cooper from entering an area between the inner ring road and Corporation Street after he intimidated staff by walking into shops while drunk and asking for money or to use the toilets in an aggressive manner.
He would become abusive and threatening toward staff when they asked him to leave and would refuse to go away.
On one occasion he threatened to stab a female shop assistant and on another he threatened to smash a female shop worker’s glasses.
He had also drunkenly screamed abuse at strangers on Piccadilly Gardens in July, while he was within ear shot of young children and shoppers.
Staff from city centre businesses helped secure the ASBO by provided witness statements which were used during the hearing.
The order, which also bans Cooper from using any threatening or offensive language in public or from approaching named witnesses, lasts until 1 November, 2017, and Cooper can be sent to prison if he is seen breaking any of the conditions.
Cooper is banned from an area bounded by the inner ring road (A665), Corporation Street, Cross Street, Albert Square, Southmill Street, Peter Street, Oxford Street and Oxford Road.

sounds like just moving the problem to another area.
King Street West has these abusive beggers on it every day. San Carlo encourage them to stand outside the doorway. They get abusive if you say no. San Carlo is going down hill drastically. Full of wannabe gangsters and cheap hookers and now it has beggars circling the door.
Bit harsh that Wilsonly. I love it there, the beggars aren't abusive and San Carlo do not encourage them. They have been on the streets for nearly ten years now, are a pain in the arse but the police cant sort them out. Its a homeless problem. To say that San Carlo is full of Hookers is just pathetic, along with the wannabee gangsters. Silly thing to say. Last time I went in there the Distefano family had spent a lot of money on it, it looks really good and the food has actually got better. Hard to beat the fish.
This man needs help, where will he get it?
You have a choice in these cases, call the cops.... call the paramedics, or call adult social services. If you keep your eyes open you will see that it is the last that are on the job.
And Wilsonly, ManCon will charge you for advertising if you are not careful in you phasing.
We had him outside our hotel just last week.. we called the police "not our problem", we called an ambulance as he had fell and cut his head "we are not taking him".. finally the police returned when they realised it was him and took him away.. FOUR HOURS after the first call...
If his punishment is prison I'll be shocked if he doesn't deliberately get caught to get free board and lodging at Her Majesty's Pleasure....
