Princess Parkway McDonalds Targeted

THUGS brandishing knives stole cash from a West Didsbury takeaway.

The robbery happened at the McDonalds restaurant on Princess Parkway, West Didsbury, at about 7.25pm on 12 January 2012.

The two men went into the store with their hoods pulled up and faces covered. One of the offenders went up to the serving area and threatened the manager with a large knife.

He demanded cash from the till, which the manager opened fearing she would be attacked. After stealing cash from the till, the thief demanded the manager open the drive-through till at the back of the restaurant, which again she did fearing she would be attacked with the weapon.

The thief's accomplice remained in the main customer area, acting as the lookout throughout the robbery, and shouted to the other man to hurry up. Both thieves then fled through the main entrance and ran off towards the Mersey Bank housing estate.

Police are now appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

The first offender was described as being about 5ft 7in tall, of a slim build and wearing a dark blue hooded jacket zipped up at the front, with the hood pulled tight around the face. He was wearing a black scarf underneath the hood covering his mouth and nose, and spoke with a Mancunian accent.

The second man was described as being black, 5ft 10in tall, of a large to stocky build and wearing a black hooded top with the hood up and a scarf covering his mouth and nose.

Detective Constable Phil Whiting said: "We need to catch these men because these sorts of criminals cannot be allowed to get away with using the threat of violence to get their hands on some money.

"For a relatively small amount of cash, they put the manager through a traumatic ordeal so they need to endure their own traumatic ordeal and face a court and be punished.

"I want to appeal to anyone who has information about this robbery to come forward. If you saw these men either going into or out of the restaurant, or you know anything at all about this robbery, then please come forward."

Anyone with information is asked to call West Didsbury CID on 0161 856 6154 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
