Get out your rainbow flag and fly it high, as this weekend sees the launch of Manchester Pride – a ten day celebration of everything lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender.
Culminating in The Big Weekend which takes place in the gay village over the bank holiday weekend, Manchester Pride will sparkle for ten days and nights with partying, live music and entertainment, film, arts, parade, markets, campaigning and debate.
The highlight of this year’s event will undoubtedly be the Pride parade, which takes place on the afternoon of the 26th August, exploding through the streets of Manchester with its colourful costumes and floats.
This year the parade will take a new route, which will take it straight through the heart of the city for all to see. The carnival of colour will commence from Liverpool Road at 2pm, and then proceed along Deansgate, across St Anne’s Square, along Cross Street and Princess Street before finishing at Whitworth Street West.
One of this weekend’s highlights will be The Pink Picnic, which will take place on Sunday 20th August in Sackville Park, from 12pm. The Pink Picnic is returning for its fourth annual year, and is a picnic for LGBT families. There’ll be plenty to do, including bouncy castles, magicians, balloon modelling, arts and crafts, face painting, teepee story time, and family information stalls on display.
