Poppadom Challenge: The return of the poppadom

What? The return of the Poppadom Challenge
When? Friday 13th October, 12.30pm
Where? Albert Square
The Mission: To build a gigantic tower of poppadoms, worthy of a place in the Guinness book of World records.

This Friday lunchtime, four dedicated members of the Manchester Confidential team will be battling the elements in Albert Square in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the tallest ever poppadom tower.

The record, which was set at last year’s controversial challenge (affectionately nicknamed the ‘robbadom challenge’ after we were robbed of our victory) on the roof of the Great John Street Hotel currently stands at 101cm.

It’s all going to be a matter of skill, team work and wind speed if we want to beat the current record. The GB wind map currently predicts a 5 mph northerly wind at 1pm on Friday, which shouldn’t trouble our poppadoms too much.

Currently in training with packets of discos, and seeking advice from some of the city’s top architects, we’re certainly not neglecting our responsibilities here folks. With Channel M filming our attempt on Friday, the pressure’s on. If it all goes wrong it could be witnessed by the whole nation. God knows we don’t want that kind of embarrassment.

The Poppadom Challenge is taking place in conjunction with Manchester Food and Drink Festival as part of Scope’s Curry Week, and Scope will be there on the day handing out free Himalaya beer to spectators and running a competition to win a crate of beer.

Scope will be in Albert Square with poppadom related activities and free beer from 12pm – 2pm. The record breaking attempt will run from 12.30 for one nail biting hour.

See you there!
