On the arts trail

This weekend sees the return of the Northern Quarter Christmas Art and Design Trail, with the Craft and Design Centre at the hub.

On the arts trail

Manchester Craft and Design Centre is a hidden gem, an Aladdin’s cave smuggled away in the depths of the Northern Quarter and cleverly concealed behind the façade of a Victorian fish market.

With 18 different studio shops clustered around a central indoor courtyard, the Craft and Design Centre is like a mini Trafford Centre for arts and crafts enthusiasts, with each individual, independently owned studio selling unique jewellery, art, sculpture, gift cards and textiles. It even has its own café. Impressive, eh?

This Saturday, 25th November, the Craft and Design Centre will be coming over all Christmassy with a day of special Christmas events and the Northern Quarter Christmas Art and Design Trail.

Throughout the day, The Craft and Design Centre will act as base, with special events such as performances by Manchester Community Choir, Fire performances, and free mulled wine and mince pies.

Then they will send you forth, leaping like calves from the stall, to wander the streets of the Northern Quarter and collect stamps from all of the groovy places participating in the trail.

There are eight independent traders and artists taking part, and to be in with a chance of winning some great prizes you will need to have your leaflet (provided by the Craft and Design Centre) stamped by at least five of them.

The venues taking part in the trail are the Chinese Arts centre, Majolica Works, Manchester Craft and Design Centre, Northern Flower, Rags to Bitches, Richard Goodall Gallery, Stroon, and Urban Suite.

Winners will be chosen in a prize draw, back at the Craft and Design Centre at 6pm.
