Olympic homecoming celebration

Manchester has never been shy about celebrating how good it is. So when something truly great actually happens here, we have to go all out. Athletes who trained in the city made a major contribution to the UK's success at the Olympics and Paralympics – with the National Cycling Centre's team bringing home a particular impressive hoard of medals.

So that we can honour their sporting prowess and join together in collective pride, Manchester City Council is putting on a big homecoming party in Albert Square.

All the Beijing 2008 athletes who trained in Manchester are expected to be there, along with medallists from across the North West. The city will acknowledge their tremendous impact on Great Britain's most successful Olympic performance for more than a century.

The family-friendly event will be held on Tuesday 7 October at 6pm in Albert Square. Be there to give the Olympic and Paralympic stars a big welcome and well done from Manchester.
