Oh I do like to be beside the quayside..

Salford Quays may be the nearest to the seaside that Manchester’s ever going to get, but next week Blackpool is coming to Manchester in the form of an exciting new exhibition at the Lowry.

As part of the Lowry’s latest exhibition ‘Folk Archive’, which aims to show us that art and creativity is all around us, Blackpool illuminations are coming to town.

Visitors to the Lowry from July 22 will be able to see a selection of the UK’s most famous illuminations, along with a mini replica Blackpool Tower! Made from steel and covered in gold with lights running down the side, the 5.5m tower will stand in The Lowry’s foyer.

Included in the illuminations are life-size seahorses from the Coral Capers section, Mummies direct from the historical Egyptian tableau, giant My Little Ponies, Fish, Groovy Discs from the fun Flower Power and Lovers Knots.

For more information on the ‘Folk Archive’ exhibition, click here.

The illuminations will be switched on by Phoenix Nights’ Janice Connolly during a Family Fun Day on Sunday 23rd July, between 1 – 3 pm, where all children will receive a free stick of Lowry rock The lights will then continue to be lit up until the end of the exhibition in September.
