Nikki champions 24 hour famine

Championing for change, former Corrie star Nikki Sanderson is this year’s official ambassador for World Vision in their annual 24 Hour Famine, which will help a deprived community in Zambia.

The 24 hour Famine, which is now in its 21st year, takes place between 9 –11 February 2007. Since the appeal was launched, more than 2 million people in the UK have raised in excess of £20 million.

Speaking about her role as the new ambassador, Nikki said: “I’m honoured to be helping a cause that makes such a difference to people around the world. We all have a duty to help others and I would encourage everyone across the UK to take part in the 24 Hour Famine, to raise these vital funds and also experience what so many have to go through every day of their lives.”

As one of the world’s leading relief and development charities, World Vision, is committed to honouring its ongoing commitment to dramatically change the lives of millions of people living in poverty worldwide.

Fundraising from this year’s campaign will benefit the Keembe community, one of the poorest areas in Zambia. This community is working hard to improve its crop yield in order to produce a sufficient harvest to eat and sell, which in turn will lead to improved health, nutrition and standard of living. World Vision aims to support this project by providing the practical materials and training needed to grow improved crops.
