Messing About on The River (Or Canal)

The Scousers have gone on for long enough about their Ferry across the Mersey, so it’s about time that we came back with one all of our own. Although our ferry does have ‘Mersey’ in its title. And if you get onto it then it’s more than likely that you will end up in Liverpool, as that’s where our ferry lives. So it’s not really a ferry all of our own.

But still, it’s a ferry. And it’s in here in Manchester, promising to push Salford Quays’ tourist trade up 10% by next year.

Mersey Ferries have joined the Quays Partnership which already incorporates (deep breath) the Lowry Arts Centre, The Lowry Outlet Mall, Imperial War Museum North, Manchester United, Lancashire County Cricket Club, The Copthorne Hotel, Old Trafford lodge and Salford and Trafford councils.

Sarah Layton Quinton, Sales and Marketing manager for Mersey Ferries, says:

“We’re really excited to be joining such a dynamic partnership as The Quays. The Manchester Ship Canal Cruise is currently the largest growth area of Mersey Ferries Business so it seems logical to be part of the tourism on offer at the Quays.”

Mersey Ferries will be offering the public the chance to enjoy a 35 mile cruise along one of Britain’s most historic waterways, with a live commentary providing an insight into the history of the Manchester Ship Canal. The cruise, which costs £30 a head, departs from Salford Quays on Sundays and lasts for six hours of nautical fun.
