Manchester’s Most Expensive Hotel Room: Gallery

David Blake goes for a snoop around The Lowry’s suite to the stars

YOU'RE NOT likely to come across this one on Trivago.

But then, if you’ve the financial clout to stay in this Presidential Suite at the five star Lowry Hotel, you don’t book hotel rooms online. You book them by the diamond-talons of a Great Indian Carrier Bustard.

"Private jets, a Lamborghini to drive around the city, we even sourced some Kabbalah water once, tricky to find that stuff.”

So how much will the Charles Forte Suite set you back? “Between £2,500 to £4,000 a night depending on availability,” says Helen Hipkiss, PR Manager for The Lowry Hotel.

Who’s stayed in the suite? “We actually have a confidentiality agreement with guests so I can’t tell you,” explains Hipkiss. “But it shouldn’t be hard to find out.”

Our Lord Google (omniscient, omnipresent, omnibenevolent, omnipotent... see?) reckons the Beckhams, Beyonce, Kylie, Gaga, Tony Blair, Justin Timberlake and Robbie Williams have all stayed in the Charles Forte Suite.

“Didn’t Robbie announce that during his concert?” we ask.

“Well, let’s just say someone announced on stage how big his shower was and how many people (women) he could fit in it… That was an interesting night,” sighs Hipkiss.

“But after all the names we’ve had staying in this suite,” Hipkiss continues, “my favourite one was the guy that booked out the suite just so his kids would do their A-level revision and stay out of trouble.”

Have there been any outrageous demands from guests? 72 virgins perhaps, or a rare albino penguin to throw out the window?

“We do get certain requests,” continued Hipkiss, “Someone once asked if we could bomb-proof the windows in the suite. We think that one was a wind up. Someone else wanted us to put in entirely new windows so that they’d open out. We refused that one.”

How far will they go for guests?

“We’ll always try and meet requests. So private jets, a Lamborghini to drive around the city, we even sourced some Kabbalah water once, tricky to find that stuff.”

We can imagine. It’ll cure cancer and cleanse radioactive waste don’t you know (Madonna said so). You won’t find that in Lidl.

What services are available with the suite? “You can have a butler, a personal chef, we can put gym equipment in the room and get you a personal trainer. We’ll also unpack your bags, pack them back up again, we’ve even got someone to run you bath to the perfect temperature,” says Hipkiss.

Sounds ideal. I’ve always struggled with those tap things. Still, for £4,000 you’d expect a swimming pool, even Sacha’s had a swimming pool. Ok, there was a hungry kraken in it and a pork pie from 1973, but it was still a pool.

The Lowry will, however, arrange for the butler to go swim in the River Irwell outside on your behalf as you watch comfortably from the seat of your grand piano and snack on Alba white truffles.
