Manchester United parade route detailed

Details of Manchester United’s victory parade, which takes place on Monday 30 May at 10am, have been revealed.

A crowd of around 100,000 is expected to line the streets of Manchester and Trafford and will be policed by 450 officers and a similar number of stewards.

The parade, marking Man Utd’s record-breaking victory in the Barclays Premier League, will travel from Manchester Cathedral to Stretford Mall via Old Trafford stadium.

Phil Townsend, Director of Communications at MUFC, confirmed that the open-top bus would not be decorated until after the result of the UEFA Champions League final.

The club has the chance to make it a double celebration if they can beat Barcelona at Wembleyon Saturday.

Townsend said that the club wanted to avoid ‘famous YouTube footage’ similar to that seen in 2007 when Liverpool FC dressed a team bus with the anticipated claim “we won it 6 times” only to lose in the final to AC Milan.

The celebration is the second for the city this season as Manchester City showed off the FA Cup to fans on Monday with a parade of their own.

Councillor Mike Amesbury, Manchester City Council's Executive Member for Culture and Leisure, said: “The blue half of Manchester did the city proud. We truly are the capital of football at the moment and it’s great to celebrate in this big Manchester party.”

A crowd of around 100,000 is expected to line the streets of Manchester and Trafford and will be policed by 450 officers and a similar number of stewards.

Ian Hopkins, Greater Manchester Police, said he wasn’t expecting any trouble: “Monday was a success in terms of policing. We only had to make one arrest for an attempted theft and nobody was hurt or injured. We are policing this as a celebration and expect more of the same success.”

Here’s the route in full:

Manchester Cathedral – 10am

Bridgewater Viaduct to Chester Road – 10:45am

Bridgewater Way – 11:10am

Wharfside Way – 11:30am

Sir Matt Busby Way (including stadium) – 11:40am

Warwick Road to Talbot Road (Trafford Town Hall) – 12:05pm

Talbot Road to Stretford Mall – 12:45pm

All timings are approximate.

What a t*t Councillor Mike Amesbury is. He Couldn’t even bring himself to mention the red half of Manchester which has been doing the city proud for over 20 years.

Think something may have been lost in translation in Cllr Amesbury's comment, Rob. Cllr Amesbury is a big Manchester United fan and he made that very clear in all the interviews he did yesterday.

He also made the point that the reds will do the city proud, as the blues did earlier this week.

Perhaps a bit of his comment has gone rogue, Mancon?

Rob don't be ridiculous, Cllr Amesbury was not in any way discrediting the Red achievement, just referring to the happy Monday night bash. Good Lord, Rob do you usually judge people from 29 words in quotations? There are some very odd football fans eh Smyth?

A Man Utd open top bus parade PLUS a hearty fill up at Stretford Arndale's Pound Bakery. Belting.

I like that route.
