Opening Hours:
Monday – Friday: 7am – 7pm
(Closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day)

The new Manchester Piccadilly NHS Walk-In Centre is now open. The centre is designed to provide accessible and free at the point of delivery treatment for minor illnesses and injuries. Based within 100 metres of Piccadilly train station at Gateway House, the centre is positioned so as to primarily focus on the immediate healthcare needs of commuters who travel in and out of Manchester . The health centre will also be an important new resource for the increasing number of people who choose to live in the city centre.

Health Minister Lord Warner said: “There is a real demand for medical centres near busy stations. People want an NHS that allows them to choose how, where and when they are treated. The convenient location of this NHS walk-in centre will improve access for patients everyday without the need for an appointment.”

An experienced medical team of eight nurses and two doctors, supported by skilled administration and reception staff will deliver the new service that is meant as a complement to and not a replacement of individual GP or accident and emergency provision.

Atos Origin, a major provider of managed medical services and occupational health have a five-year contract, worth around £8 million, to manage the centre. Atos currently provide occupational health services to nearly half a million employees in the UK public sector. Customers include the Department for Work and Pensions, Royal Mail Group, HM Customs & Excise and the Department for Trade and Industry. This is the first time an NHS centre will have been managed by an independent contractor.

“Atos Origin is committed to expanding its presence in the healthcare sector following the significant growth over the last four years of its UK medical services businesses together with important contract wins with the NHS,” said Simon Chipperfield, Vice President, Medical Services, Atos Origin.

“We will use our knowledge and extensive experience to ensure we deliver a professional and high quality service to NHS patients.”

In most instances patients will not need an appointment for a consultation. The centre aims to see everyone within 20 minutes of them being booked in at reception, or within 30 minutes for those people who arrive between 7.30am and 8.30am. Services provided at the walk-in centre include:

  • Advice on local GP and pharmacy services
