Manchester Central By-Election Announced

A PARLIAMENTARY by-election will take place on Thursday 15 November to choose a new MP for the Manchester Central constituency. The current MP, Tony Lloyd, has stepped down to stand as a Police Commissioner role.

Voters will also go to the polls on 15 November to elect a Police and Crime Commissioner and in addition voters in the Ardwick ward will have the opportunity to elect a councillor, following the death of former Lord Mayor of Manchester Councillor Tom O'Callaghan earlier this month.

The following council wards are in the Manchester Central constituency: Ancoats and Clayton; Ardwick; Bradford; City Centre; Hulme; Miles Platting and Newton Heath; Moss Side and Moston.

Applications to register to vote on 15 November must be received by 31 October, so would-be voters, who are not already on the electoral register, are being urged not to delay if they want to have their say. Applications to vote by post, or to cancel an existing postal vote, must be received by 5pm on 31st October.

Residents can download an application form from the Council's website at www.manchester.gov.uk/elections or can ask for a form to be sent to them by post by emailing esu@manchester.gov.uk or by calling 0161 2341212.

A list of candidates for the Manchester Central by-election will be published at 5pm on 31 October at www.manchester/elections

Reminder to anyone voting, 1/2 m of your money was spent on a night out at a concert for Laboir councillors and their mates. VOTE anyone but Labour

I've watched the advert for Manchester on prime time Spanish telli the day after the event. What a great advert that was for the city, more of that sort of thing, please.

And perhaps send Duke Famine to one of our renowned beer festivals, fill him up with perry to get him to think straight. ;-)

No doubt Labour will want this to be seen as a vote about the austerity policies of the Coalition, but I would hope that instead the other candidates and local media instead focus on local issues as well.Lets see Manchester Confidential asking the Labour candidate what they think about Library Walks and other development issues.

As someone who lives and works for an independent business in the city centre, I'll be voting for anyone BUT Labour....so most probably Lib Dems.

Labour are killing the city centre. It's a ghost town most of the time now.

The parking scheme was basically put through, even though the consultation had about 90% opposed to any change. Please point me to the survey/evidence where any person in the Greater Manchester area said "Yes, we'd like to pay 8am - 8pm for Sunday parking". Liars.

And the changes to Deansgate's two lane system has meant that congestion far later than previously. (Although they'll probably link the reason for the parking to change is because of this, even though it came after!!!).

One car turns right and there is a blockage and utter chaos, I've already seen several crashes because people dont know what's going on!

I've heard they cant even use any funds from the additional money they've raised from the parking changes (mainly yellow penalty tickets) on anything else. So I can only assume they are heavily profiting from the NCP car parks, have Trafford Centre businesses or both!!

...another pointless politicization of public services, another unnecessary layer of bureaucracy, another sham charade in the name local democracy.
