MCR Police Reports: 28 July - 3 Aug

Here at Confidential we get a constant stream of reports, releases and updates from Greater Manchester Police. This is a small selection of the reports received so far this week, not all of them.

Some do make for depressing reading but it's worth remembering that Greater Manchester has a population of 2.6m and that recent figures show crime rates have fallen across both the region and the country.

Thursday 31 July: Pair jailed for murder of teenager

Two men have been jailed for stabbing to death a teenager in Wythenshawe following a re-trial.

Kelvin WilhelmKelvin WilhelmThe pair had been drinking with John and others at a house on Hollyhedge Road in Benchill on the evening of Sunday 13 June 2010. Witnesses said that Ellis and Wilhelm were both seen brandishing a 12-inch knife during the course of the evening.

In the early hours of Monday 14 June, Wilhelm became aggressive with the group and said that someone had stolen his cannabis and mobile phone. Sometime before 3am Wilhelm demanded that the men present take their trousers off to show they were not hiding anything.

While others did this, John refused and got into a struggle with Wilhelm. Ellis joined in to help Wilhelm. Screaming was heard from outside the house.

Police and paramedics attended and John was taken to hospital for treatment to a single stab wound to his chest. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

At about 2.45am on Sunday 8 June 2014 a man was walking on Quay Street, near to Walkabout bar, when he bumped into a man who was walking past him. An argument ensued and the man lunged at the victim, pushing him to the ground, before biting him on the face and leaving.

The suspect has been described as white, in his mid 20s, around 5ft 8in tall, medium build, with short, dark hair, clean shaven and was wearing a blue shirt. He spoke with a local accent.

Detective Constable Robert Corbishley of North Manchester Division, said:

"This was a violent attack and the victim required twenty stitches to his face.

"There are likely to have been quite a few people around at this time in the evening, maybe going home after a night out that may have seen the attack.

"If you recognise the man with his shirt off in the CCTV image please contact police immediately. We are also keen to speak to the other man in the image, who was not involved in the attack, but was present throughout. We are urging anybody who may have any information to contact us."

Two men, 35 and 34, have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman, 49, was found dead with cuts to the head on St Heliers Drive, Salford.

At 5.22pm on Sunday 27 July 2014 police received a call from the ambulance service stating the body of a woman had been found in the back garden of a house at the address.

Officers attended and found the body of a woman. She had suffered some cuts to the head and was declared dead at the scene.

Detective Superintendent Jon Chadwick, of the Major Incident Team, said: “We are still in the early stages of this investigation so we do not yet know exactly what happened.

“We can say that a woman has died in sudden and tragic circumstances and we are determined to find out what led up to this.

“We have arrested two people in connection with the death and this will allow us to interview them under caution and to get full accounts from them.

“We have already spoken to a number of neighbours and this will continue throughout the day. As a result, residents will see an increased police presence in the area and we trust they will be reassured by this.
