Thursday 2 January: Adam Pickup died from fall

Police have confirmed that Stockport teenager, Adam Pickup, 17, died as a result of a fall around the Deansgate station area.

Adam did not return home following a night out after leaving friends at Fab Cafe on Portland Street in the early hours of Saturday 28 December.

He was last seen on CCTV at 3.30am walking along Oxford Road towards Whitworth Street.

Following a nationwide appeal police found Adam's body on Monday 30 December in the Deansgate area.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding Adam's death.

Thursday 2 January: Shoplifter breaks woman's leg

At around 11.45 on Monday 30 December, a shoplifter went into Boots on Market Way, Rochdale, stole an item from the shelf and ran from the shop.

As he ran the shoplifter collided with a 65-year-old woman causing her to fall and break her leg. She remains in hospital.

A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and theft and has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Tuesday 31 December: Shameless robber fakes seizure

At around 5.30pm on Thursday 19 December, two men entered a Post Office on Broadhaven Square, Miles Platting.

One of the men fell to the floor and pretended to have a fit, forcing the 41-year-old postmaster to leave the backroom and check on the man.

As he did so the second man sprayed the postmaster in the face with a CS spray and pushed him back in to the room. They fled with a large amount of cash.

Both robbers were white, one was wearing a fluorescent jacket and had his face covered. 

Police responded and one man was arrested a short time later and a large amount of cash was recovered. He has since been charged with robbery. Detectives are appealing for information about the second man and remaining cash.

Monday 30 December: Body found in search for Adam Pickup

Although no formal identification has taken place, it is believed that a body found by police around the canals of Deansgate station at 3.30pm on Monday 30 December is that of missing Stockport teenager Adam Pickup.

Adam had not returned home after leaving friends at Fab Cafe on Portland Street at around 3.20am on Saturday 28 December. He was last seen on CCTV at 3.30am walking along Oxford Road towards Whitworth Street.

Chief Superintendent Nick Adderley said: "While formal identification has not taken place we believe this is the body of missing Adam Pickup. His family has been informed. This is a heart-breaking time for Adam's family and our thoughts are with them.

"Our initial indication is that that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death, however speculation as to what may have happened will not give the answers Adam's family is looking for.

"We will now carry out a thorough investigation which includes a post-mortem examination.

"We would like to thank the media and the wider public for all their support during this appeal, including on social media."

Two men who were earlier arrested have now been released without charge.

Monday 30 December: More CCTV released by police in hunt for missing Adam Pickup

Police would like to speak to the man and woman who were with him on Oxford Road.

Two men, aged 24 and 25, from Manchester have been arrested in connection with the investigation and remain in police custody for questioning.

Sunday 29 December: 17-year-old missing after night out in city centre

Police have arrested two men as part of their enquiries to locate Adam Pickup. They currently remain in police custody for questioning. 

Adam Pickup, 17, from Stockport, has not returned home since leaving friends at Fab Cafe on Portland Street at around 3.20am on Saturday 28 December.

He was last seen on CCTV at 3.30am walking along Oxford Road towards Whitworth Street and appears to have been speaking to a man and woman.

Adam is described as white, 6ft 2in tall, slim with mousey brown hair. He was wearing a maroon long-sleeved collared shirt, black jeans and black leather Nike trainers with white soles.

Police are appealing for witnesses but would particularly like to speak to the man and woman seen talking with Adam.

The man and woman are described as being white, both with dark hair and wearing dark clothing. The man appears to be wearing glasses and a blue scarf.

Superintendent John Berry said: “We are extremely concerned for Adam’s welfare and we are stepping up our searches. If you have any information about his whereabouts or you remember seeing Adam we would urge you to get in touch and tell us where you saw him or where he may have been going.

“In particular, while he was walking up Oxford Street Adam appears to be walking alongside a couple and speaking to them. If this was you please get in touch and tell us what you know. We are trying to trace Adam’s movements and at this point it is not clear what direction he goes in. This couple may have vital information to help us find him.”

Saturday 28 December: Sexual assault in St Ann's Square

Police are searching for further witnesses after a woman was sexually assaulted at around 3am on Monday 23 December in St Ann's Square, Manchester city centre.

They are particularly searching for one woman who may have caught the incident on her camera phone and could hold vital information.

John Hodson, 50, of Lockton Close, Chorlton appeared in court on Christmas Eve and has been charged with sexual assault.

Det Const. Daniel Nowland said: "This assault took place in public and there were a number of witnesses who have already come forward.

"We would ask if anyone else witnessed the assault and hasn't already spoken to us that they get in touch with us as their information could be vital to our investigation.

"In particular, we believe a woman may have captured the assault on a camera phone. We would urge this woman to come forward with any information she has about what happened."
