Tuesday 5 November: Elderly man held at knifepoint in his own home

An 81-year-old man and his 88-year-old brother have been threatened with a knife and a spade in the victim's own home in Sale.

At around 6.15pm on Monday 4 November, three men rang the doorbell of the house on Dane Road, pushed their way into the property and demanded cash from the victim.

There was a struggle and the elderly man and his brother were bundled into the living room whilst the offenders searched the house and stole money, a wallet, a TV and two model ships before stealing the victim's Smart car and driving off.

One man is described as being white, 5ft 9in tall, of slim build, had a thin face, was clean shaven, in his mid-20s, wore a black jacket with the hood up and black trousers.

The second was white, 6ft tall, of medium build, unshaven, in his 30s, had dark brown hair, wore a dark wool jumper and grey trousers.

The third man was white, of heavy build, in his mid-20s, 5ft 9in tall, wore a dark grey jacket with the hood up, a scarf that covered the lower half of his face and dark grey trousers.

Detective Constable Dan Hayes based at Altrincham Police Station said: “This was a despicable crime that saw two elderly members of our community threatened, forced into the living room and locked in while the offenders not only stole personal items but also took a car. Thankfully, they were not injured and the car was later found locked and secure on Chesnut Avenue in Cheadle.

“I am appealing to anyone who may have seen these men burst into the home or subsequently drive off in the Smart car in the direction of Old Hall Road to contact us.  We are also keen to hear from witnesses who may have seen the car being left on Chesnut Avenue and the offenders making off.”
