Friday 20 December: Elderly pensioner dies after Rochdale collision

An elderly man has died following a collision in Smithybridge.

Just before 6.50pm on Thursday 19 December, Roger Davis, 76, from Milnrow was hit by a Vauxhall Astra on Milnrown Road near to the junction with Dale View.

He sadly died of his injuries at the scene.

In a statement, Roger's family paid the following tribute: "Roger was a loving, strong husband, father and grandfather. We will miss him with all our hearts."

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses, and anyone who can help is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741.

Thursday 19 December: Tributes Paid To Girl, 12, Killed In Shaw Road Accident

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses after a 12-year-old girl was killed following a collision on Milnrow Road in Shaw around 4.30pm on Tuesday 17 December.

Annalise HoltAnnalise HoltTwo girls, one eleven and one twelve, had been hit by a blue Mercedes Vito van. 12-year-old Annalise Holt from Oldham tragically died following the collision. The 11-year-old girl remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Lesley, Annalise’s mum, has paid the following tribute: “Annalise was my beautiful angel princess. She was full of joy and energy, loud and outgoing. She was a kind 12-year-old girl, always willing to help others, old and young.

"She is the light of my life, my whole world. I love her more than words can say. She was everything to me. She was too young to be taken away. She was going to have a great life but it’s not to be."

Wednesday 18 December: Project Gulf Targets Organised Crime

At around 6.15am on Tuesday 17 December 2013, officers from Project Gulf, Salford’s multi-agency task force, executed warrants in the Salford, Bolton, Bury, Wigan areas and an address in Skelmersdale, Lancashire.

Project Gulf was set up in 2010 to tackle serious organised crime. The multi-agency team investigates every area of a suspected criminal's life - including their business interests, benefits, housing and associates.

18 addresses in all were targeted leading to 12 arrests for drugs and money laundering offences. Operation Montoir in Salford arrested nine of their ten key targets.

Monday 16 December: Murdered mother identified

The woman stabbed to death at her home on Calf Hey, Shore Road, Littleborough, near Rochdale, has been formally identified as 64-year-old Glennis Brierley.

Glennis suffered multiple serious stab wounds.

Her son, 45, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Monday 16 December: Young boy, 5, injured by brick throwing yobs

Police are appealing for witnesses after a group of teenage yobs threw a brick through the window of a bus in Gorton, injuring a five-year-old boy.

At around 8.40pm on Monday 25 November, the 205 bus was travelling along Belle Vue Street towards Hyde Road when the offenders, described as white, in their mid-teens, of skinny build and dark clothing, launched the brick at the bus.

The brick hit one of the back windows and left the young boy with a cut on his head.

Brick missile injures boyBrick missile injures boyPolice Constable Alex Vernon based at Central Park Police station said: “The two offenders have shown no thought or disregard for anyone who has been on the bus and for reasons only they know, have launched a brick through the window.

“To make matters even worse, it hit a five-year-old boy at the side of the head.  Thankfully, he suffered a minor cut but we could have been dealing with something even more horrendous.

“I would ask anyone who may have seen two people in their mid-teens either throwing the brick or running away from the scene to contact us as soon as possible.”

Sunday 15 December: Son arrested after mother murdered

Police found a woman stabbed to death at her home on Calf Hey, Shore Road, Littleborough, near Rochdale, after receiving a phone call from a public telephone box shortly before midnight on Saturday 13 December.

Police attended the home and found the body of a 64 year old woman.

At around 8am on the morning of Sunday 15 December, the woman's son, 45, was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Superintendent Chris Hankinson, said: “This woman has been murdered in her own home and our focus is on ensuring justice is done and the perpetrator is brought to justice. 

“We were able to act swiftly this morning and make an arrest but clearly there is still a lot of work to be done and I would ask anyone with information that could assist our investigation to come forward. 

“The Littleborough community will no doubt be shocked by what has gone on and we will have officers in the area to speak to anyone should they want to talk to us. 

"I also want to reassure them and the wider public of Greater Manchester that we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with this woman's murder."
