MCR Police Reports: 11-17 August

Here at Confidential we get a constant stream of reports, releases and updates from Greater Manchester Police. This is a small selection of the reports received so far this week, not all of them.

Some do make for depressing reading but it's worth remembering that Greater Manchester has a population of 2.6m and that recent figures show crime rates have fallen across both the region and the country.

Friday 15 August: Second person arrested in connection with care home abuse inquiry

A second person has been arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into abuse at a care home in Stretford.

On 2 June 2014, police received allegations of abuse at a care home in Stretford.

On 12 June 2014, a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of common assault.

The man - who is an employee at the home - has been bailed until 22 August 2014

Following further information received, on Friday 8 August 2014, a 29-year-old woman, who is also an employee at the home, was arrested on suspicion of assault on two residents.

She has been bailed until 2 October 2014 pending further enquiries.

Managers and owners of the home are continuing to cooperate with the police investigation.

Detective Inspector Jed Pidd, said: "This investigation stems from concerns raised by a number of "whistle blowers".

"They are serious allegations that are the subject of a thorough investigation by specially trained detectives from our public protection investigation unit.

"I want to reassure anyone connected with the home that the current owners and managers are being fully cooperative with our investigation.

"The safeguarding and welfare of current residents remains our top priority.

"If anyone has information about the offences currently under investigation or wants to discuss anything else or raise other concerns I would encourage them to contact us."

An investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 7719.

Thursday 14 August: Man Given CRASBO

A man from Old Trafford has been given a second CRASBO for verbally abusing members of the public and harassing young girls.

Eustace Norford, 29/3/63, of Stretford Road, Old Trafford was given the three-year CRASBO at Trafford Magistrates Court yesterday, Tuesday 12 August 2014.

The order prohibits him from shouting and/or swearing at members of the public and from speaking to any child in a school uniform at any location within the Borough of Trafford.

On Tuesday 12 August 2014, Norford was sentenced for harassment, stalking and two public order offences.

In one incident Norford shouted abuse at a passerby and his young daughter on Talbot Road, Old Trafford, in February 2014, while, in another saw him threaten to punch someone in Asda, Hulme, in March this year.

He was sentenced to community orders for these offences and given a CRASBO to prevent further offending.

This latest CRASBO is in addition to an existing CRASBO already secured against Norford in July 2013, which also lasts for three years and bans him from entering Stretford Mall and the Aldi and Iceland stores at Seymour Grove and their car parks.

The case was a joint response between Trafford Council ASBO officers and Trafford North INPT police officers.

If Norford breaches either CRASBO he could be jailed for up to five years. If any members of the public witness any breaches please report them to Greater Manchester Police on 101.
