MBS and Chamber hold 2018 World Cup event

The Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce and Manchester Business School is holding an event to show local businesses how they can benefit should England win the bid to host the 2018 World Cup finals.

The event takes place on Thursday 21 October between 6-8pm and speakers include Simon Johnson chief operating officer of the England 2018 bid; Dietmar Hamann, former Manchester City and Germany footballer; Andrew Stokes, chief executive of Marketing Manchester and former England goalkeeper and World Cup winner Gordon Banks.

England’s bid is strongly fancied to land the 2018 tournament, ahead of the official FIFA announcement on 2nd December. If England wins, the boost to the country’s economy is an estimated £3.2bn.

Manchester and Liverpool are both included as two of the twelve host cities in the bid, meaning the business opportunities within the North West could be substantial.

The FIFA team visited Manchester last month to carry out checks on the possible venues and run the rule of the city’s infrastructure.

The event will also include a networking session and drinks and canapés on arrival. For more details, visit the website or contact jocelyne.elton@mbs.ac.uk
