PUBLIC consultation on the first impressions of Wythenshawe’s new bus and tram interchange is set to close on Monday 26 March.
Over 1,000 people have visited the exhibitions, held by Transport for Greater Manchester, and more than 100 formal responses have been received.
We’ve had a very encouraging response to the exhibitions and consultations
The proposals will see the current bus stop relocated to a new site off Poundswick Lane where it will be joined to one of the new Metrolink stations in the area. TfGM says the new interchange will provide better and safer facilities.
Councillor Andrew Fender, Chair of the TfGM Committee, said: “The new interchange is going to provide a modern, high quality gateway to the town centre for bus and Metrolink passengers and is an exciting sign of things to come for Wythenshawe.
“The consultation gives people the chance to help shape the final designs, so I’d encourage people to visit the website, see what we’re proposing and tell us what they think.”
Wythenshawe Interchange, funded by TfGM and Manchester City Council, is part of a wider regeneration effort in the town and it is anticipated the land occupied by the current bus station will play ‘a key role in that’.
Cllr Fender added: “We’ve had a very encouraging response to the exhibitions and consultations.”
Comments received during the public consultation will influence the next stage in the design process, after which a planning application will be submitted to the council. Work on the site could start as early as next year and the new interchange could open in 2015.

Over-designed for a bus stop
Yawn... It's not a bus stop, it's an interchange/bus station...
@ DUKE FAME always trying to be controversial...
It's great to get a proper idea of how the trams will fit in to Wythenshawe. The interchange looks like it will make a big difference and will really join up public transport - I can't wait!
So good to see regeneration like this coming our way!
