James Bond, Casino Royale: The North West Premiere

Gordo’s pal Howard Sharrock is a good friend of Barbara Broccoli, producer of the Bond movies. And Barbara has generously agreed, via Howard, to let Gordo hold the North West Premiere of Casino Royale here in Manchester on Wednesday the 15th of November in aid of Nordoff Robbins, the music therapy charity now resident at Chethams Music School. Fancy coming? It is going to be the party of the season.

We are going to make a night of it. Miguel Sanchez at AMC Cinema in The Great Northern Warehouse on Deansgate has kindly agreed to give us his cinema for the evening, and arrangements are being made to ensure that there are unlimited vodka martinis (shaken not stirred) along with champagne flowing liberally. Five of Manchester’s finest chefs are serving up some of the loveliest canapés ever to grace Manchester. The press will be out in force.

Then, Daniel Craig shall entertain us all with his film of the original Fleming book, Casino Royale. Rumours are that it is a humdinger.

Does it stop there? Oh no; Maria Slater, the rather fabulous lady from London Clubs International is inviting us all back to her place; the astonishing Manchester 235, a brand new Las Vegas style casino, again situated in The Great Northern Warehouse. Manchester 235 isn’t a casino as we understand them. Two restaurants, Linen, exclusive modern British cuisine and Numero, the Italian that isn’t Manchester Italian. It’s the real thing. A casino that James Bond would feel at home in, a live music venue and an ultra exclusive bar open until the late hours in the morning. They have a few treats in mind to take us into the small hours.

The whole thing is in aid of the previously mentioned Nordoff-Robbins, (click here for their website), the people who help traumatised children through music therapy. Since Howard and Mark Garner brought the organisation to the North West, they have ensured that three therapists are here full time, one of them resident at Christies. They are keen to keep the success going.

Tickets for the evening will be £45. They aren’t yet on sale, but if you email Gordo click here, he will place you at the head of the queue - just let him know how many and your mobile number please. If you are doing corporate hospitality, there are tables available in Linen, the astonishing new restaurant inside the casino itself. Ask Gordo for details.

Happy Trails

Gordo
