Heather's weekend tips

Bold Street beano, something that students might like and a big armoured vehicle driving around

Heather's weekend tips

Let's hear it for Bold St
Last year’s Bold Street festival bash was deemed so successful that they thought it would have another go in 2009.

This Saturday, the dives that make up the Pool’s much loved shopping quarter will be celebrating their own unique fabulousness in true party style.

Let’s face it, a lot of them could use your help financially since the drain to Liverpool One.

Up here it's original and fun, it must be, the Liverpool Confidential office is here, right next to Naughty But Nice. And you can go to American Apparel any time.

Revolution, Utility and News From Nowhere are just some of the names down for the festivities and there's even a mobile cinema involved as part of the Abandon Normal Devices Festival.

Expect slashed prices, carnival-style dancing, DJs, goody bags and tasty food samples. Shopping has never been so much fun.

*Bold Street Festival, Sat 26th Sept, 9am-5pm, free.

Veteran vehicle
It's certainly timely. Large scale slide projections documenting the experiences of returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan will be projected on to the sides of Liverpool's public buildings, including Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral's bell tower all this weekend.

Based on interviews with returning war veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, War Veteran Vehicle, by Polish artist Krzysztof Wodiczko, is part of the opens up the public space to the experiences of service members and their families in order to foster a better understanding of the impact of combat on their lives.

A main component of the project is a British military vehicle, which has been converted into a roving projection unit and driven by veterans through the streets of Liverpool. The vehicle’s gun placements, re-fitted with a video projector and p.a. system, transmit the testimonies of soldiers and their families onto the façades of buildings and monuments in the city.

Thought provoking stuff.

Electro bop
Evol- the grimy but trendy O2 Academy club night for electro-rocking studes- is having a sort of re-launch to see in (with style) the new academic year.

FestEvol, which takes place this Friday, looks set to be a massive music night judging by the epic line-up of electro heavyweights.

Hadouken will headline the big room but there’s also Kissy Sell Out, The Golden Filter, Cassette Jam, Balloons, Screaming Lights and Wave Machines to choose from.

It won’t be raving that brings music lovers out in a sweat; there are so many acts to see that frantic up and down the stairs movement could well become the dance of the night.

*FestEvol, O2 Academy, Fri 25th Sept, doors 7pm-12pm, advance tickets £12.50 on www.ticketweb.co.uk
