Got what it takes to be the new Cassette Jam?

The search is on for a turntable star with the launch of Babycream's 2007 DJ competition

Got what it takes to be the new Cassette Jam?

Are you a wannabe superstar DJ, trapped in your bedroom, mixing up brilliant dance tunes but with no crowd to listen to it? Well you're not alone – well actually you are - but now here's a chance to get out more forever.

Babycream, down at the Albert Dock, has just launched its DJ competition for 2007. It's a major event, given that the career of last year's winners, Cassette Jam, has gone into orbit in the last 12 months with appearances at the hottest dance venues in the UK, sets at Malawi's Lake of Stars festival and an Ibiza summer to look forward to.

Organisers say: “This is an amazing opportunity for a lucky, enthusiastic and talented DJ to be the next big thing on the club scene.”

This year's winner will become Babycream's weekly resident, and will DJ alongside some of the biggest names in the industry at Cream, in its spiritual home, Nation.

Other prizes include a gig at Northern Light in Leeds, club tickets and “various DJ accessories” courtesy of 3-Beat records.

If you think you’ve got what it takes to be a contender, send your mix CD, with your name and contact details to Babycream DJ Competition, Room 202, The Vanilla Factory, 39 Fleet Street, L1 4AR before Friday April 20. Your mix should be approximately 60 minutes long and only in CD format.

Six DJs will be picked for each heat, which will all be held at Babycream. The first heat takes place on April 22. Six finalists will go head-to-head in the final on Sunday June 17, when judges will include Cream’s James Barton.
