Fools Gold: City Batters Illegal Traders Ahead Of Stone Roses

ILLEGAL street traders are being warned to stay away from this weekend's Stone Roses concerts in Heaton Park, after a man was prosecuted for the offence.

Illegal street trading jeopardises our hard-working bona fide traders and threatens jobs.

Abdou Tall Gueye was handed a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £250 court costs at Manchester Magistrates Court on Wednesday 20 June, after Manchester City Council officers caught him in the act.

Gueye pleaded guilty to the offence after his goods were seized from him by officers in March, on Piccadilly Gardens.

Gueye was seen attempting to sell inflatable items from a trolley. He was then interviewed under caution and officers used their powers of seizure to confiscate the items.

Around 80 toys were seized from Gueye and will be disposed of, after magistrates awarded a forfeiture order to Manchester City Council.

Executive member for the environment, Councillor Nigel Murphy, said: "This penalty should serve as a warning to any illegal street traders thinking of exploiting this weekend's concerts in Heaton Park. Our officers will be patrolling the surrounding streets.

"Illegal street trading jeopardises our hard-working bona fide traders and threatens jobs. We would encourage anybody looking for merchandise at the Stone Roses concerts to use the legitimate stalls set up within the venue."

And you would think they had nothing better to do than arrest some poor bloke trying to make a living, selling a bit of tat and not doing anybody any hard,,,,

The link with the stone roses is a bit tenuous isn't it? I didn't realise they were well known for inflatable merchandise.

I also didn't know there were *any* bona fide inflatable tat sellers in the whole of the city, what's the council's problem? Who exactly was this guy competing with that makes him such a threat?

Maybe they should sell Jesus crosses as the Roses all think they can walk on water.

Illegal trader? Stone Roses merchandisers are the least of the citys problems. I wonder if the man had leave to remain in the country too? There seems to be more and more Burkhas, Africans and people from god knows where on our ever increasing crowded streets and nobody does jack for fear of being labelled "racist" its pathetic. Its like a United nations refugee warehouse. It needs to be said sorry. The streets are filthy too and its not the city i grew up in thats for sure. I don't want to smell cannabis walking past hissing foreign intimidating looking men in Piccadilly gardens either thank you. Will they clear the beggars and vagrants on Market Street too i wonder which does nothing to promote tourism in the city. I had the unfortunate experience of witnessing a man sitting down with legs sticking out at weird angles begging on Market Street it was like a scene from Slumdog Millionaire. Shocking and upsetting at the same time not what anyone wants to see.

Wow... you're a real humanitarian aren't you? Here's an idea... let's round up all the beggars, 'people from God knows where' and all the other undesirables and put them out of sight... maybe in a camp of some kind? What do you think?

You're a horrible, horrible excuse for a human being.
