Exclusive update: Westlife's senior moment

MOVE over Amy Winehouse and Keith Moon, this is what rock n roll rebellion has come to: A clean-cut, besuited group of young chaps arriving an hour late at a high street book store to sign copies of their "life" story.

Those who had queued for 25 hours, and counting, might have been a tad peeved at their tardiness, but not our hardy Babs Dyson who got there at noon yesterday and braved high winds and rain overnight to be very first in line of 500 people when her Irish idols came smiling.

The ring of security men keeping fans like Babs, 57, at bay was the sort you would normally expect to find around a Brinks Mat convoy. But Babs spent her reward - a mere five seconds in front of her heroes - taking her own picture before grinning widely with her autographed book. Mission accomplished. And she "would do it all over again".

Just as thrilled was Seren Boyd (pictured bottom right), the 17-year-old from Southport whose gritty gran braved the elements (see original story below) so that she could meet her heroes in person.

Our original story from Tuedsay, below, explains all, and a few new pictures of that hot, rock n roll Westlife action from today.

BABS Dyson from Litherland is going to see Westlife tomorrow. She has her flask, some sandwiches, an overnight bag, a book and, er, a chair.

For Babs, 57, it is going to be a wait well worth it. For she is camping out in front of Waterstones, Bold Street, to see her favourite boy band.

"You can't miss the beat, it's their rhythm,”she excitedly told Liverpool Confidential.

“I'm a bit tired. I was up all last night. I was so excited that I was coming down here and I wanted to be first in the queue.”

What is she going to say when you see them? “Hi guys, lovely to see you. Whatever comes out,” she chipped.

Eve Hill, left, will have one very happy grand-daughter tomorrow if things go to plan.

She is there holding the place as number two in the “queue” for 17-year-old Seren Boyd, a passionate Westlife fan, with learning difficulties, who has been clutching her own copy of Westlife: Our Story, to her chest, since it was published last week.

Eve said: “She has absolutely no idea I am here. She eats and sleeps Westlife. Has pictures of them all over her bedroom and on her mobile phone. I will queue until tomorrow and she can take the place here in the morning. It will be a massive surprise."

The onetime boyband still have a huge girlie following and are popular among gay men, but will doubtless raise a cheeky Irish eyebrow when they see their most dedicated Liverpool followers at 12.30pm on Wednesday at their book signing.

As Babs says: "We'd be crazy not to."

Will somebody take these two game girls a brolly and a beer if need be tonight?

Good on Babs Dyson. I went past Waterstones yesterday and thought that the woman in the chair was feeling unwell. Not likely, she's more well than most of us. What a great example of enthusiasm during our Capital of Culture year. Let's have more of it.

Hello i would like to just say that i went down to Waterstones with my daughter who has adored westlife since the beginning of their careers but when we got down there the queue was already huge and as she was happy just to have a glimse of them we stood opposite the shop hoping that she would get to see them going into the shop but that wasn't the case, after having waited for 2 and a half hours in the pouring rain which incidently caused her a great deal of pain as she has a metal pin in her foot due to a foot disability they didn't even have the decency to come out side and wave to everyone that had been waiting. Also the bouncers on the door knew that they were already in there but never even told anyone to save them wasting there time knowing they weren't going to get even get a glimse of them. They should of rembered that if it wasn't for the fans they wouldn't be were they are now and wouldn't have the money they have now either.I think it was disgusting when Jason Donovan signed his book he remembered his fans by saying IF and i quote "it wasn't for my fans and pointed at all the people who was waiting along with my daughter and myself then i wouldn't be were i am now".That to me tells me that Jason donovan respects and appreciates his fans more than westlife did yesterday. My daughter said she will never bother herself again after the pain she suffered standing in the rain.

I bet Westlife don't get half as many old biddies as I would if I could be bothered getting in my Lear jet and flying in from LA to Liverpool.

Well done Babs. Me and my 11 yr old Daughter sadly didnt acheive the book signing as 250 raffle tickets where given out and reserve of 100 and yet still they came. We arrived and told by Manageres some info and went around the back of store. The first to do so at 10.30am. We were soon joined by enthusiastic fans and chated to security who were pure gents and very funny. The guys arrived in 3 silver people carriers and with family and girlfriend( yes who). Hysteria followed by the guys diving in the smal door. Everybody dispersed except me and my Daughter!! Yes we were rewarded by having a picture taken by the big security guy (in the above pic) next to the drivers in silver car as WESTLIFE CAME BACK OUT OF THE DOOR AND DIVING AROUND TO THE NEXT DOOR!! Mark said Hi to my daughter and said BYe.Me panicking tried to take a pic,did I get it!!?? Its on a disposable camera so watch this Space. Thanks to all who stood with us and I met a great gal who we will be e-mailing later.
