Didsbury Venues Hit By Robberies

TWO attempted robberies to report in Didsbury - one West, one East.

Police are appealing for witnesses after an attempted robbery at Greens Restaurant on Burton Road yesterday (Monday August 8).

Two men walked into the restaurant and threatened staff with a knife, while making demands for cash.

Fortunately, the pair fled empty-handed and are believed to have run off down Clyde Road. No-one was injured during the robbery.

The first man is described as white, around 5ft 5in tall and of slim build. He is believed to be in his twenties, had a large pointy nose and spoke with a Mancunian accent. He was wearing a hat or hood and a dark green jacket.

The second man is of unknown ethnicity and is believed to be around 5ft 8in to 5ft 9in tall and of a broader build than the first offender.

Just over a week ago, staff at The Didsbury pub were also threatened with knives during an armed robbery.

At around 12.15am on Monday 25 July 2011, two men walked into the pub on Wilmslow Road and demanded money.

They threatened staff with knives and demanded they knelt, facing the floor. They demanded cash before one worker handed over money to one of the men. The other man stayed in the bar area with the remaining staff.

A substantial amount of money was taken along with a Rolex watch and the men left.

One man is described as being white, in his 20s, 5ft 8in tall, of slim build and was wearing dark clothing with black cloth covering his face.  He carried a knife.

The second man is described as being white, 5ft 7in tall, in his 40s and had a rounded appearance.  He wore dark clothing, a black balaclava and carried a knife.

Anyone with information about either incident is asked to call police at West Didsbury CID on 0161 856 6115.

At the time of writing, GMP had not confirmed if the same men are believed to have carried out both crimes or if the two incidents are connected.
