Cold Blooded Motiveless Killer Jailed For 23 Years

A MAN has been jailed for life for the brutal attack and murder of a student from Manchester.

We believe this senseless murder has been justly punished. Equally, we believe Hussain should serve his sentence and not be considered for release until he no longer poses a threat to society.

Imran Akhtar Hussain (born 10/3/86), of Tilehurst Lane, Bracknell, Berkshire has today, Friday 12 July 2013, been sentenced at Manchester Crown Court, Crown Square to life in prison and ordered to serve a minimum of 23 years before he can be considered for parole.

At about 1.30pm on 4 January 2013 a 38-year-old man was walking along Derby Road in Nottingham when he was approached by Hussain who punched him in the right side of his face.

The victim did not know Hussain and the attack was totally unprovoked. The punch left him shocked and in a lot of pain.

Hussain shouted obscenities towards his victim and ran up Arundel Street and got into his car and drove off.

Twelve days later, on Wednesday 16 January 2013 at about 2.15pm, 18-year-old Kieran Crump Raiswell was walking from his home address in Chorlton towards the city centre.

The purpose of this journey was to distribute CVs in order to find work before he headed off to university in September.

It is believed Kieran left home at about 1.45pm, he walked past the Tesco store on Upper Chorlton Road when Hussain drove past him.

Hussain turned left into Stamford Street a short distance ahead and parked his car and hid behind a bush

He waited for Kieran to pass him and approached him from behind. He plunged a knife into his back twice so hard that one of the wounds went straight through Kieran⿿s shoulder blade.

As Kieran turned around Hussain stabbed him two more times in the arm and chest. Kieran fell to the floor and Hussain ran back to his car and drove off.

A member of public called an ambulance and a passing Fire Service crew gave emergency first aid and resuscitation to Kieran.

He was taken to hospital where he sadly died from his injuries.

A murder investigation was launched and officers searched through hours of CCTV. From the footage it was clear Hussain had driven past Kieran a number of times in what would appear to be an attempt to find the right place to attack him.

The black ford KA Hussain was driving was tracked to a service station at Stafford services, where he used his debit card to withdraw cash. Officers were able to trace his name and address from this transaction.

On Sunday 20 January 2013 at about 4.20pm Hussain was arrested in the Coventry area on suspicion of murder.

Detective Chief Inspector Pete Marsh from GMPs Major Incident Team, said: "This was a premeditated unprovoked attack on an innocent young man who had his whole life ahead of him.

"Hussain and Kieran had not met before; Hussain came to Manchester with the sole intention of causing harm.

"He picked Kieran out of a crowd and followed him down Upper Chorlton Road, Hussain hid behind a bush and waited for Kieran to walk past before subjecting him to a savage attack.

"This was a cold blooded motiveless killing and it is clear from his actions that Hussain obviously has no regard for human life.

"He stabbed Kieran before leaving him collapsed on the floor fighting for his life.

"No sentence will ever be enough or can undo the needless loss of life, but I hope that today's result will be of some small comfort to Kieran's family and friends."

Statement from Roland Crump and Christine Raiswell: “First, we would like to thank family, friends and the community for their unstinting support over recent months.

"We also want to thank the GMP Family Liaison Officers and Victim Support for the help and advice they have provided since Kieran was killed.

"Our heartfelt gratitude also goes to the police investigation team led by DCI Pete Marsh for their excellent work in investigating Kieran's murder, and also to the Crown Prosecution Service and to Peter Wright QC for successfully prosecuting this case.

"At this time, it is important to remember Kieran as an outstanding young man about to embark on his adult life and we treasure the memory of our fantastic eldest son. We will always remember him.

"Kieran was walking into town on that Wednesday afternoon in January when Imran Hussain picked out our son and subjected him to a vicious attack that gave him no chance of defending himself.

"We believe this senseless murder has been justly punished. Equally, we believe Hussain should serve his sentence and not be considered for release until he no longer poses a threat to society.

"Thank you on behalf of all the members of our family."
