City News in 250 words: Tuesday 19 July

A 32-YEAR-OLD MAN was shot four times in the back outside a pub in Northenden on Sunday. The man who was shot outside the Spread Eagle pub is currently being treated in hospital for gunshot wounds. His condition is described as serious but stable.

REPORTED FRAUD IN THE NORTH WEST has plummeted according to recent half year fraud track figures. In the last six months, the figures have decreased from £93m to £9.2m compared to last year’s figures. Experts warned that the decrease in figures were due to behavioural change in reporting the fraud, causing the figures to drop. Tax and cash fraud remain the highest offenders, representing more than half of reported cases.

SALFORD UNIVERSITY has caused confusion due to the rebranding of its logo. The new logo, formally known as 'University of Salford: A Greater Manchester University' will now be called 'University of Salford, Manchester’. Bosses at the University claim the new logo will help differentiate them from other universities and will help new students locate the university. The logo will be used on letterheads and prospectuses sent out to new and international students, however 'Manchester' will not feature on logos around the campus.

A PATIENT AT STEPPING HILL HOSPITAL is now fighting for his life after his medication was tampered with at the hospital. The man is one of 14 patients whose medication was affected after a saboteur tampered with 36 ampoules of saline. Police have spoken to 50 witnesses and continue to monitor the deaths at the hospital.

This week in 1930: Film and TV actor Burt Kwouk, star of the Pink Panther films, was born in Manchester.
