CARLOS Tevez is considering suing Roberto Mancini for defamation. The City player has been suspended and fined four weeks wages (about £1m) for five breaches of contract in a game against Bayern Munich in September. But now Tevez has been advised that Mancini’s post-match comments, which included accusing him of refusing to warm up and come on, could amount to defamation. Tevez, who has 14 days to appeal the charges, continues to deny claims he refused to play.

ELBOW’S support act, The Slow Show, are struggling to play a free homecoming gig at Manchester Cathedral on Thursday after their drum kit was stolen. The Pearl kit, worth thousands of pounds, was stolen during the burglary of a house on Kemble Avenue, Northenden, on Monday. Organisers are now rushing to find a kit for the band to use so the gig can go ahead. Drummer Chris Hough said: “My kit was custom made and so special to me.”

SOCIAL Care cuts planned by Manchester City Council have been deemed ‘not unlawful’, a judicial review found. Mr Justice Ryder dismissed claims that the changes did not follow the governments disabilities guidelines made by two disabled and elderly applicants.

THE Lord Mayor of Manchester’s Charity has taken the ‘We Love MCR’ name in a rebranding exercise. The motif of civic pride was made popular after the August riots and now The Charity Appeal Trust, which provides grants to local organisations, has adopted the new name to emphasise its place as a ‘peoples charity.’

FACT OF THE DAY: October 1867 The Cattle Fair resumed at Knot Mill, Manchester, after being suspended for three years during the cattle plague.
