OCCUPY MANCHESTER protesters have set up camp in Spinningfields, under the slogan ‘We are the 99 per cent’. One of the protesters, Rachel, shouted gleefully “hang the bankers” from his tent as he was getting up, while Joseph, who stood outside, said they were protesting against inequalities. They put emphasis on the fact they all have jobs and a home but want a change in the world saying “we´re not uneducated or unemployed hippies”. Although there were only three of them sleeping in the tents last night it’s expected that more people will show up today.

MOSS SIDE BOXING and Athletics Association has been awarded £41,355 to upgrade its facilities from a London 2012 legacy fund. The boxing club is among over 600 organisations to request a share of the £17 million Inspired Facilities fund and was the first sports group in the UK to secure funding.

COMPUTER GIANT Microsoft, is up against the Manchester rain. Microsoft is attempting to film every angle of the city using camera cars for their Microsoft Streetside project, which is similar to their rival Google´s Streetview. Microsoft planned on finishing filming this year but has been delayed until January due to heavy rain.

MANCHESTER ARTIST COLLECTIVE, Ultimate Holding Company, has won a place in a major North West show at Tatton Park Biennial 2012. The art piece ‘Colditz Cock’ is partly inspired by the life and work of Barbara Cartland and her fascination with flight, in theme with the 2012 art event which will explore the human fascination with flying.

Fact of the day: This day in 1825 Manchester born George Calvert died. He was a respected surgeon and wrote a treatise on ‘Diseases of the rectum’.
